Dr. Troy Sedlmeyer completed undergraduate studies in Biology at West Virginia University before his medical degree, also at WVU. He then did his Internship and Residency training at WVU in Family Medicine.
Dr. Sedlmeyer practiced in a rural clinic in Mannington, WV before joining Wedgewood Family Practice in Morgantown, WV. After several years, he began working with MedExpress Urgent Care in Morgantown, WV.
His interests are in preventive care and wellness. By choosing a healthy lifestyle and making better choices for ourselves, we can avoid or improve many of the chronic healthcare problems that many face today. This includes weight loss which can help patients with high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis/chronic pain, and elevated cholesterol/lipids. Through a better diet and proper nutrition, we can achieve a healthier life to live and be more functional and active.
Originally from Hollsopple, PA, he came to West Virginia after serving in the U.S. Air Force and also working with the U.S. Marine Corps through military contractors performing equipment maintenance and renovations.

I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a nurse, and after graduating from nursing school in 2010, I began work in the hospital setting as a critical care nurse. In 2015, I decided to get my master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from West Virginia Wesleyan University. During my clinical rotations and residencies in primary care, I began to realize just how sick my community was. My patients were riddled with diet-related illnesses such as obesity, Type II diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Others were struggling with chronic pain, addiction issues, mental health issues, and more. It became clear to me that healthcare in the United States focused more on treating sickness instead of promoting wellness. I wanted my patients to get better and no longer need lifelong medications to merely sustain and/or prolong their illness.
I started working at Advanced Physical Medicine in 2017, and it differed greatly from other clinics I had worked in because it is a medically integrated practice. We have Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, and other clinical staff to provide our patients with the best possible care. Here at Advanced Physical Medicine, we focus on treatment modalities that are designed to reduce pain, restore function, assist the body in healing itself, and thus improving the overall quality of life. Ultimately, this can be done by determining the root cause of a patient’s pain or dysfunction and treating it using physical medicine.
Want to know the most rewarding aspects of my career here at Advanced Physical Medicine?
I actually get to SEE my patients improve without using pain medications that merely mask pain; honestly, there is nothing better than that.”

I achieved my undergraduate nursing degree from Waynesburg University. After graduation, I started my nursing career in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Ruby Memorial here in Morgantown. During those 4 and a half years, I witnessed how sick patients can get as a result of lack of support, access to healthcare, and proper health education. Healthcare currently focuses on sick care rather than preventive care. Wanting better for my community and patients thus pushed me to advance my education.
I began my master’s degree at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic with a 5 month old baby boy at home. It was a scary time in not only healthcare but the world especially as a new mom. Balancing a baby, work, school, and clinicals was quite the challenge. With the help and support of my family, I graduated from Duquesne University in December 2022 and became a board certified family nurse practitioner. With another baby on the way, I started my first NP job here at Advanced Physical Medicine in February 2023. Compared to all the clinics I completed clinicals at, APM truly stood out to me. Here we focus on the patients, truly listen to them, and work to resolve the cause of their pain rather than solely treating the symptom. Our treatments focus of the restoration of function and reduction of pain as the body heals itself. This ultimately leads to an overall better quality of life for our patients. We actually see our patients improve! Aside from the gratification I get from improving the daily lives of my patients, APM provides a great work-life balance allowing me to still spend this precious time with my little guys at home.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling. I’m very excited to watch my first son become a big brother this spring. As the weather gets warmer, we spend most of our days outside: at the park, fishing, going for walks.

I have been a nurse educator for over 11 years and am currently an Associate Professor of Nursing at Belmont College. I have worked as a family nurse practitioner in occupational, family, and hospice medicine.
It is a great privilege to collaborate with the chiropractors, physical therapists, staff, and the other nurse practitioners to help our patients meet their goals. In the short time I have been associated with Advanced Physical Medicine, I have seen many patients reduce their pain and discomfort while increasing their functional status.
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling, and gardening.

I believe in an integrative medical philosophy, recognizing that the mind-body-spirit components of a patient need to be in balance for optimal health. Currently, I also have a massage therapy license, Reiki 2, and Healing Touch Level 2 certifications. My acute care nursing experience includes neonatal ICU, operating room, recovery room, and coronary care ICU.
Advanced Physical Medicine is a great place to work. I am part of a competent caring team of folks who prioritize quality patient care and outcomes. Our clinic is unique in that we house rehabilitation therapy, massage therapy, physical therapy, nurse practitioners, and chiropractors all under one roof. We daily collaborate on an individual’s plan of care to facilitate the healing of muscular-skeletal conditions.
